The stainless steel flange is a flange that connects steel pipes, fittings, etc. into the flange and connects to equipment or pipelines through corner welds. The inner hole on one side of the flange is equipped with a welded boss, which has an inner hole. The inner hole is connected to the inner hole at the center of the flange, and there is elasticity between the flange and the welded boss.
Stainless steel flanges are flanges that connect steel pipes, fittings, etc. into the flange through corner welds with equipment or pipelines. The inner hole on one side of the flange is equipped with a welded boss, which has an inner hole. The inner hole communicates with the inner hole at the center of the flange, and there is elasticity between the flange and the welded boss. The two top surfaces of the elastic ring are combined with the flange and the welded boss, respectively. There are many screw holes on the flange, which are symmetrically distributed around the center of the flange. The stainless steel flange is made of stainless steel, followed by a polyethylene plastic layer, a rubber layer, and a PVC layer. Now let's take a look at the precautions for using stainless steel flanges.
1. To prevent intergranular corrosion of stainless steel flanges caused by heating, the welding current should not be too large, about 20% less than that of carbon steel welding rods. The arc should not be too long, and the cooling rate should be fast between layers; a narrow weld bead effect is better.
2. The electrode should be kept dry during use. The perovskite type needs to be dried at 150°C for 1 hour, and the low-hydrogen type needs to be dried at 200-250°C for 1 hour (do not dry repeatedly, otherwise the coating is prone to cracking and peeling). Prevent the welding rod coating from getting contaminated with oil and other pollutants to avoid increasing the carbon content of the weld and affecting the quality of the welded parts.
3. When welding stainless steel flange fittings, repeated heating can precipitate carbides, reducing corrosion resistance and mechanical properties.
4. American standard flanges made of chromium stainless steel are prone to cracking after welding due to their high hardenability. If welding with the same type of chromium stainless steel welding rod, preheating above 300°C is required, and then slow cooling around 700°C. If the welded part cannot undergo post-weld heat treatment, stainless steel flange welding rods should be used.
5. For stainless steel flanges, adding appropriate amounts of stabilizing elements such as Ti, Nb, Mo, etc., can improve corrosion resistance and weldability. The weldability is better than that of chromium stainless steel flanges. When using the same type of chromium stainless steel flange welding rod, preheating above 200°C and tempering around 800°C is required. If the welded part cannot undergo heat treatment, stainless steel flange welding rods should be used.
6. Stainless steel flange fittings and butt welding flange electrodes have good corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance, and are widely used in chemical, fertilizer, petroleum, and medical machinery manufacturing.

RELATED INFORMATION
What types of flanges are used in the petrochemical industry?
In many applications, engineers need to find a way to safely close a chamber or cylinder, often because the composition or pressure of the internal material must be different from that of the external material.

What is the difference between butt welding fittings and socket fittings?
Butt welding connection is to fix the two parts completely after spot welding. Of course, the requirements for welders are also slightly higher, as butt welding needs to undergo 100% RT inspection under strict working conditions.

What types of flanges do we often use?
The main types of flanges are welding neck, long welding neck, lap joint, threaded, and blind flanges, as well as slip-on, socket weld. In addition to these standard flanges, there are also some special flanges, such as rotating flanges, expansion/reduction flanges, and hole flanges.

Product information about elbows
Steel pipe elbows (sometimes also referred to as elbows) are key components in pressure piping systems used to change the direction of fluid flow. They are used to connect two pipes with the same or different nominal diameters.
