General methods and steps for reading flange drawings:
(1) First, look at the title block to get a general understanding of the part.
Look at the title block to understand the part name, material, and scale, etc., thus gaining a general understanding of the part's function, determining the type of part from its name, inferring the approximate processing method from the material, and judging the actual size of the part from the scale to have a preliminary understanding of the part.
(2) Analyze and study the views, imagining the structural shape.
Look at the views, analyze the configuration of each view of the part and the relationships between the views, the expression methods used, and the content expressed. Use the reading methods of assemblies, shape analysis, and line-surface analysis to understand the structure of each part of the component, imagining the shape, relative position, and function of each part.
(3) Analyze all dimensions and clarify the dimensional requirements.
Comprehensively analyze the views and shapes, analyze the dimensional references in the three directions of length, width, and height of the part, then start from the references, using structural shape analysis as a clue, to understand the shaping and positioning dimensions of each shape, clarifying the role of each dimension. The graphics and dimensions express the shape and size of the part, and when reading the drawings, one should analyze the three aspects of views, dimensions, and shape structure together.
(4) Analyze technical requirements and comprehensively understand the entire drawing.
When reading the drawing, clarify the technical requirements such as surface roughness, dimensional tolerances, and geometric tolerances. Understand the meanings of their codes. If necessary, also analyze in conjunction with related parts.
